Memory [T.sub.H]2 cells induce alternatively activated macrophages to mediate protection against nematode parasites
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted to examine the early events in the memory response to Heligmosomoides polygyrus larvae developing in the intestinal submucosa, which indicate that alternatively activated macrophages (AAMacs) have an important role in parasite expulsion. The findings from the study could provide insights into protective mechanisms against human tissue-dwelling nematodes that might trigger polarized type 2 inflammation associated with AAMacs, including hepatic Ascaris lumbricoides, lymphatic Filiaria, Trichuris trichiura and Anisakis simplex.

HIV-1 tat reprograms immature dendritic cells to express chemoattractants for activated T cells and macrophages
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that HIV-1 infection or Tat transactivator protein induce gene expression that is responsive to interferon in immature human dendritic cells. Data indicate that the induced gene products are chemokines that recruit activated T cells and macrophages, which are targets for HIV-1 virus.

In vivo migration and function of transferred HIV-1-specific cytotoxic T cells
Article Abstract:
The authors point to the possibility that CD8 cytotoxic T lymphocyte response to invading cells may not be adequate in the case of HIV infection. These cells, which kill invaders, may be helped in production quantities by the use of immunotherapy in addition to other anti-HIV treatment.
